International Outreach
Institut Francais L’Institut français est l’opérateur de l’action culturelle extérieure de la France. Il a été créé par la loi du 27 juillet 2010 relative à l’action extérieure de l’État et par son décret d’application du 30 décembre 2010. Placé sous la tutelle du ministère des Affaires étrangères et du Développement international, il est chargé, dans le cadre de la politique et des orientations arrêtées par l’État, de porter une ambition renouvelée pour la diplomatie d’influence. Il doit contribuer au rayonnement de la France à l’étranger dans un dialogue renforcé avec les cultures étrangères et répondre à la demande de France dans une démarche d’écoute, de partenariat et d’ouverture.

Bibliothèque Bleue. The Bibliothèque Bleue de Troyes represents a long and storied tradition in popular French print culture. Spanning more than 250 years and involving the publication of mass-produced, inexpensive books that were sold to peasants for pennies by colporteurs (peddlers), the Bibliothèque bleue was comprised of texts ranging from the practical (recipes, almanacs, and how-to books) to the pious (hagiographies, prayer books, and other religious instruction) and to the entertaining (fiction, romans de chevalerie, songbooks, burlesque), providing a unique insight into the popular culture of 17th to mid-19th century France.
