Dental Faculty and Instructors: Request Ebooks, Chapters, Articles, & More

This guide provides dental faculty at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC with information about library resources and services for teaching and curricular support.

Request Library Resources for Teaching & Research

There are two ways to request a purchase for new library resources (e.g., ebooks, book chapters, journal articles).

Request resources for teaching:

  1. Course Reserves (ARES): The preferred method for requesting and managing electronic materials (e.g., journal articles, book chapters, ebooks) for a specific course. This is the best way for instructors to ensure that students can access all the required readings for a course in one convenient online platform.
  2. Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery (IDD): IDD is typically used for requesting PDFs of scanned book chapters or journal articles from other universities or items only available in print at USC Libraries. However, if an instructor submits a request for an ebook through IDD, USC Libraries may purchase the ebook and add it to the library catalog. For ebook requests, instructors must include a note in the "Additional Information and/or Special Instructions" field indicating that you are a faculty member and the ebook is for course instruction.

Request resources for research or other information needs:

  1. Use Interlibrary Loan & Document Delivery (IDD).
