Randall Information Center | USC School of Social Work

What are impact factors?

Impact factors are one of the ways that we can measure quality of journal and the impact of the research included. Impact factors are used for journals only. To learn more about journal impact factors including how to find them and how they are calculated, use the tabs on the left.

To learn more about other impact metrics and ways that we measure quality of research, both individually and institutionally, go to the Publishing Your Work & Extending Impact guide which has information to help you identify major journals in your field and understand how a journal or article's impact is measured.

Look at the subpages on the left, to get more information about how to find a journal impact factor in the database Web of Science.
