Developing your Debate Topic/Question

When beginning your research, consider these questions to help you narrow your topic:

  • What is your topic of interest?
  • What issue are you interested in talking about?
  • Is there a specific location you would like to focus on in your research? (optional)
  • What question would you like to address?

Example:

  • What is your topic of interest?
    • The media
  • What issue are you interested in talking about?
    • The media's portrayal of different races/ethnicities.
  • Is there a specific location you would like to focus on in your research?
    • America/United States
  • What question would you like to address?
    • Does the American media accurately portray all races similarly?
