Pharmacy Preceptors: Library Access and Resources

Preceptor Benefits

Preceptors and voluntary faculty receive access to information resources (apps, textbooks, reference books, databases, journals, etc.) licensed by Norris Medical Library. During the process of applying to become a preceptor, you will also complete paperwork to receive a USC NetID and password. Use your NetID to log in to information resources licensed by the Norris Medical Library,

  • To use library resources, start at any Norris Library webpage. When you click a link, enter your USC NetID and password.
  • Watch the videos or the tutorial on this page to learn how to use library information resources.
  • Get help with your NetID by contacting Elaine Miyamoto at the USC School of Pharmacy or the USC School of Pharmacy's Office of Professional Experience Programs
  • Get help picking a source, searching databases, or using e-books, e-journals, databases, or apps: Contact USC Libraries reference services at medlib@usc.edu or online chat (red box, bottom right-hand corner of the screen).
  • Not sure who to contact, or have other questions? Preceptors can contact Amy Chatfield, pharmacy liaison librarian, by making an appointment, emailing amychatf@usc.edu or  calling/texting 323-442-1128, for help with any aspect of library access.

Apply for a USC NetID

If you were a preceptor or voluntary faculty for USC School of Pharmacy in the prior year, you do not need to do anything.

If this is your first year, or you are returning after a break of a year or more, you must apply for a USC NetID account. Each preceptor is eligible for his/her own USC NetID account:

1. Please contact Dr. Ying Wang in the Office of Professional Experience Programs (PEP) at wangying@ usc.edu.  She will provide you with an application that best fits your situation.

2. Once your application is complete and processed, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to activate your USC NetID account. Activation is done online and will require you to enter your date of birth and create a password.

3. To use library resources, start at any Norris Library webpage. When you click a link to a licensed information resource, you'll be asked to enter your USC NetID and password.
