Science & Engineering Citation Style Guide: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

IEEE Citation Style Guide

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) citation style is used for the various engineering disciplines. The guides below will help you get started.

In Text Citations

There is only one way to cite sources in text.

Numbers in Brackets

  • Ex. This theory was expanded upon in 2015 [1].

Note: Each reference number should be enclosed in square brackets on the same line as the text, before punctuation, with a space before the bracket. Once a source has been cited, use the same number for all subsequent references.
