Korean Studies *: Find Books

1. Search on Library Online Catalog 

• Searching by Hangul (한글):  Worldcat (Union Catalog of libraries in North America)  is most efficient and convenient when searching by Hangul. If the item is held by USC, Worldcat provides a direct link to Catalog for the local information (call number, location, loan status, etc.)  

• Searching by Romanization: American libraries use the ALA-LC Romanization and Word Division System, a McCune-Reichauer based system.  Please see the Romanization tab in this guide under "Home" to learn the basics of the rules. 

2. Browse in the stacks or request at the circulation desk

• Print collections in Korean are in the East Asian Stacks on Level 1 of Doheny Memorial Library, all Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language materials inter-shelved alphabetically by the call number, bringing similar subjects together. USC, along with the rest of the American academic libraries, uses the Library of Congress classification schedules.
• Print collections in English on Korea are housed mostly in the East Asian Library.  Current journals, newspapers, and reference books are held in the Reading Room on the first floor of Doheny Memorial Library. The remote Grand Library also holds substantial Korean books and journals (bound journals, large sets, older materials, and non-core subjects).  Most books in Grand are pageable via USC Libraries Online Catalog.
