Founded in 1917, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists is currently the world's largest professional geological society. The membership of AAPG includes geologists, geophysicists, CEOs, managers, consultants, students and academicians. The purpose of the organization is to foster scientific research, advance the science of geology, promote technology and inspire high professional conduct.

Founded in 1948, the American Geological Institute is a nonprofit federation of 50 geoscientific and professional associations that represents more than 120,000 geologists, geophysicists, and other earth scientists.

The CGU began as a society dedicated to the scientific study of the solid earth and has evolved into one that is concerned with all aspects of the physical study of Earth and its space environment, including the Sun and solar system.

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) was established by the Councils of the European Geophysical Society (EGS) and the European Union of Geosciences (EUG) in the Platzl Hotel in Munich, Germany in 2002. It is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the geosciences and the planetary
and space sciences for the benefit of humanity.

Established in 1888, The Geological Society of America provides access to elements that are essential to the professional growth of earth scientists at all levels of expertise and from all sectors: academic, government, business, and industry.

The Geological Society of London was founded in 1807. It is the UK national society for geoscience, and the oldest geological society in the world.

International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) is a non-governmental, scientific organization, established in 1919. IUGG is dedicated to the international promotion and coordination of scientific studies of Earth (physical, chemical, and mathematical) and its environment in space.

The Paleontological Society is an international nonprofit organization devoted exclusively to the advancement of the science of paleontology. The Society was founded in 1908.
