Comics and Graphic Novels

Western comic pages are read from left to right. The panels within the pages read from left to right then right to left. See the diagram and read the steps below for more details:

1. Start at the top panel then read the panel below on the left.

2. Read the panel on the same row to the right.

3. Move to the next row and read the panel on the left.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3

Essentially read the comic in a Z shape pattern from top to bottom and left to right.

Manga pages are read from right to left. Manga panels are read from right to left then left to right. See the diagram and instructions below for more details.

1. Start at the panel in the upper right hand corner.
2. Read the panel on the same row to the left.
3. If the panel below a previous panel shares a row with a previous larger panel read the panels from top to bottom. See the panels 2 and 3 in the diagram below.
4. If the next panel starts a new row then start with the panel on the right then move to the left. See panels 3, 4, and 5 in the diagram below.

In short read top to bottom and right to left.
