STAINED GLASS WINDOWS

The historic Hoose Library of Philosophy's iconic stained-glass windows were installed 90+ years ago in 1929 for the opening of USC's first library, by the artisans & craftsmen at Judson Studios

The windows have undergone full restoration under the project management leadership of April Rabanera (USC Master of Heritage Conservation alum) of the KC Restoration team, USC FPM team, and the Judson Studios team!

The seven window panels were restored to their original location in September 2023, seven feet from the library floor. Each panel is 2.5’ wide, 5’10” in height and curved! The newly refurbished windows can be seen at the top of this box.

Visit the library today to see the newly restored library windows back in place!

The artisans and craftspeople at The Judson Studiosthe oldest family-run stained glass company in America, are seen below, hard at work - restoring, repairing, recaming the lead, and cleaning each pane of glass by hand!

Above, the library's windows being safely removed and transported to Judson Studios.

Below, before and after each pane of glass is individually cleaned.

Below, the before and after of the windows in Head Librarian Dr. Melissa Miller's office, restored as part of the same Summer 2023 project:
