Dr. Sonia Kaur Everest Children's Dentistry Book Collection: About

This guide highlights children's dental texts purchased in memory of Dr. Sonia Kaur Everest, a beloved pediatric dental resident and alumna of the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC DDS Program.

About the Collection

This guide and collection was created utilizing content from the University of Maryland, Baltimore's Health Sciences and Human Services (HSHSL) Library guide on Children's Dental Health Books. Their guide informed WDL's purchase of the collection and has been a valuable source for reviewing the content and quality of the books. Mary Ann Williams, HSHSL librarian, and Katy Battani, past Health Education Coordinator for the Maryland Dental Action Coalition, created and curated a guide to children's dental books along with an interprofessional group of reviewers. Their goal was to make information about oral health available to pediatric dentists, dental hygienists, pediatricians, nurses, librarians and early childhood educators. We took their advice to make available all of these wonderful books to our community and are excited to make them available in the name of a beloved former pediatric dental resident.

Additional comments and review information is available on the University of Maryland guide.

Our collection is available on RESERVE and titles can be loaned for 1 day or more depending on your needs.

About Dr. Sonia Kaur Everest

Dr. Sonia Kaur Everest received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery (DDS) from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC in 2013 and continued on to seek a specialty in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Everest had her first dental experience in the Head Start program as a child and the experience was a driving force to pursue a career in serving those in need, specifically children. She always had a special bond with children throughout dental school, and was actively involved in Mobile Clinic and Dental Care for Children. Dr. Everest’s was a face seen quite often at the Wilson Dental Library and she will be remembered for her wonderful smile, kindness, and personality. The Wilson Dental Library would like to honor her memory by sharing her smile with the Ostrow community and the pediatric dental community. Books that were purchased in Dr. Everest's honor include a special book plate, and we hope that they will be used to foster learning about oral health.
