What is a Wikipedia assignment?
Instead of a traditional writing assignment or research paper, students research course topics and improve the related Wikipedia articles, using high-quality citations to add new content. (Or if there isn't a Wikipedia article yet, they can create one!)
Who can receive support for the assignment?
Wiki Education provides free support to USC faculty and their students.
How does it work?
During the application, you will answer questions about your course and learning objectives. The Wiki Education assignment design wizard then creates a custom plan and dashboard for a Wikipedia assignment, accounting for factors such as assignment timeline, course topic, and number of students. The course dashboard serves as a one-stop shop for the Wikipedia assignment and includes a tailored sequence of student training modules, as well as subject-specific resources, exercises, and digital tools that track student work. Your course will also be assigned a Wikipedia Expert from the Wiki Education team – ready to help you or your students.
Can I run a Wikipedia assignment in more than one course during the same term?
Yes! Just be sure to submit a different course page for each course when you apply.
How much of my course does the assignment need to be?
Six weeks minimum, but it's up to you how much grading weight you'd like to give to it.
Do students work individually or in groups?
Whatever you prefer! The dashboard supports individual, pair, and group assignments.
