American Academy of Periodontology has created an interest group for dental students, appropriately called the Dental Student Interest Group (DSIG). The DSIG is intended to assist dental students in gaining a greater understanding of periodontics as a specialty and how the Academy can aid them in their careers, whether they practice as a general dentist, periodontist or in another specialty area.
Dental students eligible for the DSIG will be currently enrolled in a U.S. dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Participation in the DSIG program gives dental students online access to all AAP member-only content including, the Journal of Periodontology and a multitude of research and practice information. Information on the DSIG participation fee is available at the site.
The DSIG Application and additional information can be found at http://www.perio.org/education/dsig.htm
