How to use citation management software. Includes EndNote, EndNote Web, RefWorks, and Mendeley.

What is EndNote Online?

EndNote Online citation management software is free to USC-affiliates. Access EndNote Online through the Web of Science database.

  • Web-based: access it from any computer.
  • Collect references from databases such as PubMed, Web of Knowledge, and many more.
  • Access full-text articles through the "Find it @ USC" link.
  • Format papers and create bibliographies for your paper with the Cite-While-You-Write plug.
  • Easily switch between citation styles in your paper and bibliography.
  • Collaborate with colleagues by sharing folders of citations.

How to Access EndNote Online (Institutional)

To register for USC's institutional EndNote Online (free to USC Faculty, Staff, and Students):

  • Go to the database. Web of Science
  • Click 'EndNote' (tab menu on the top of the page)
  • Click 'Register'
  • Complete the User Registration
    • Note: you do not have to use your USC email address

Having problems with the Captcha? Try one of these alternate methods to register for a EndNote Online account through USC:

Way 1: Use the USC Virtual Private Network (VPN) software provided by USC ITS. Once connected to the VPN, follow the same steps above to access the same registration page; this time, the Captcha should function.
Way 2: Register for a free-to-anyone EndNote Basic account using your usc.edu email. After completing registration, visit USC's subscription to Web of Science, then click on the link to EndNote at the top of the page. Log in with your already-created account. This will "pair" your EndNote Basic Account with USC's EndNote subscription.
