Bloomberg: Industry Information

Tips and resources to support the use of Bloomberg terminals at USC


It is easy to find industry infomation.  You can simply type:  industry or the Bloomberg mnemonic:  BI

Type the name of an industry, e.g. Semiconductor, Airlines, Media, or as in the example below:  Internet and Bloomberg will try to find the industry You can see the result Internet, Bloomberg has found the Intenet Media industry,  with the Mnemonic:  BI INET


The Industry Analysis page provides information and data on industries, including overviews like Bull-Bear Outlook an Industry Primer, detailed anlysis, e.g. Valuation of peer groups, and multiple other tools for analysis.



You can find various types of analysis on most industries.  The report types are listed on the left side of the page:

  • Bull & Bear present the major themes in an industry, these reports can be downloaded, look for the PDF icon.
  • Industry Primers provide the basics on an industy

Use the Data LIbrary to find STATISTICS, for example:

  • The Macro option provides economic data that drive the industry , as well as industry specific statistical information
  • Cost Analysis provides cost structures by the top companes (as available)d
  • Market Share providesranked  company revnues

The MONITOR section includes anaysis on the markets, stockprices as well News/Research which will lists Investment reports and News by INDUSTRY

Once you select a major industry, such as COMMUNICATIONS, you have the option to select sub-inudsties.
