Historic Preservation in Architecture and the Built Environment: Finding Books and Theses

A selective guide to researching the history of built environments, landscapes and buildings, with special emphasis on sources related to Los Angeles. It was created in support of the Heritage Conservation Program at the USC School of Architecture.

Locating Published Materials

To locate books and graduate student theses, start with the following resources:

HOMER- the online catalog of the USC Libraries.  Search for books, USC theses, dvds, and journals (but not individual journal articles).

Worldcat – a collective online catalog that encompasses academic and research libraries in the United States and some foreign research libraries, as well.

Proquest Theses and Dissertations – this provides access to US theses and dissertations, many in digital format.
