Tests & Measurements: Published vs. Unpublished Tests

This guide is intended to introduce users to the basic procedures and sources available to locate psychological tests and measures.

Published vs. Unpublished

It is important to be aware of the differences between “published” and “unpublished” tests & measures.

  • Published measures include well-known tests available for purchase from commercial sources at no, or small cost, and often only with permission.
  • Unpublished measures are referred to in articles, dissertations, or other papers and reports and are not available from commercial publishers. Often they are available in print, and in some instances, available by contacting the author.
