Weeding Collections

Why and how to weed Doheny and other library collections

Doheny Collection Statistics

The Doheny Memorial Library stacks can hold a maximum of 575,000 volumes.

There were 505,887 as of May 2014, so we are rapidly reaching full capacity.

Furthermore, we have added the following number of new books:

  • 2010/11   21,342
  • 2011/12   24,847
  • 2012/13   22,782

Adding another 20,000 volumes in 2014/15 without transferring any will bring the total to about 525,000, and it will be completely full within about 3 years if we continue the current pace of acquisitions.

Masoud Farajpour has kindly provided capacity statistics broken down by call number.
