Defining Excellence in Academic Librarianship
This Libguide draws attention to resources that highlight opportunities for career growth and professional development, as we, librarians at USC Libraries, embrace and encourage outstanding work and innovation, while providing a shared vision of excellence in academic librarianship at USC, “one of the world’s leading private research universities of the 21st century”.
Among the many issues that we will explore, as this guide develops over the next few months, there are three fundamental questions that remain at the fore of our initiatives:
- What is “Excellence in Academic Librarianship”?
- How do we mentor new librarians for career and organizational impact?
- When the time comes for annual or continuing appointment [tenure] reviews, how are we to document and explain to our colleagues (both within our library and within our institution), exactly what we have accomplished in terms of outstanding professional activities and lifelong commitment to scholarship?
