Introduction
The Islamic Studies collection, built largely since 2005, consists of materials in both Arabic and Western languages, shelved together by subject (Library of Congress Classification) and dispersed throughout the library system, the primary location, being, however, Doheny Library.
The strength of the collection lies in the medieval and modern history of the Arab world, on Islamic Central Asia, and the classical and modern literatures of the Arabic-speaking world (with an emphasis on Egypt and the the Eastern Arab countries). Since the beginning of 2006 holdings on contemporary political, anthropological and sociological dimensions of Islamic Studies have increased steadily.
