RefWorks (Legacy): Academic OneFile

This guide has information on how to use RefWorks legacy (older version).

Importing from Academic OneFile (formerly Expanded Academic)

Note: Be sure that you have turned off the pop-up blocker in your web browser before starting.­

Academic OneFile

From the search results page:

  1. mark documents (if more than one)
  2. click on the "Marked Items" link
  3. in the upper right corner of the Marked Items page, click on Citation Tools button (opens a new window)

  4. choose Export to third party software: RefWorks
  5. click on Export.

If RefWorks isn’t open, a window will open and prompt for login.


  1. once you login to RefWorks, you should see the "Import from..." window
  2. you may edit the global field settings if you wish (not usually required)
  3. click on "View Last Imported Folder" to see your imported citations
