In Chem 294 this semester we will discuss the importance of impact and metrics in scholarly research with respects to chemistry*. Often how "impact" is measured is using a set of metrics. Everyone database has a different set of metrics. Some are more common and popular than others. You will learn about different type of metrics and how to collect and interpret the data.
We will only cover three basic types of metrics and a small handful of databases and tools, but keep in mind there are numerous other metrics and platforms available.
*Most science, engineering, and medicine disciplines follow these standards, but for the arts, humanities, and social sciences different metrics are used to determine impact.
