Cite While You Write (CWYW)

CWYW is used to insert references and instantly format citations and bibligraphies while writing papers in Microsoft Word.

When using EndNote Online, you will need to log in to your account in Microsoft Word. It will store your login credentials for ease of use.

When you insert a citation in a Word document, the bibliography instantly formats according to the style selected, e.g. APA 7th, JAMA, Vancouver, etc.

  1. Select the EndNote tab on the ribbon or set of menus at the top of your Word document
  2. Select citation style from the dropdown menu, if you don't see the style of interest choose select another style to see the full list of available styles
  3. Select Insert Citations
  4. Search for the citation you want to add. This screen will be blank until you enter a search
  5. Select the citation to be added Multiple citations can be selected using Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac)
  6. Click insert and the in-text citation and full reference will be added to the document.

Note: Always check the in-text citations and reference list for errors when you are done with the document to catch any errors.

Using JAMA Style:

 

Switch to APA 7th Style by selecting from the Style Dropdown menu. If it doesn't update automatically, click Update Citations and Bibliography:
