IR 210, International Relations: Introductory Analysis: Question 8

This course guide provides guidance on how to complete Analytical Exercise #1 in Dr. Lamy's IR 210 class.

Question 8:

Primary sources: select a research paper topic that would require the use of primary documents. What is the topic and what primary documents would you use?

Intended Learning Outcomes

Most of the questions so far have asked you to search what are called secondary sources--books, newspapers, journals, popular magazines. However, another category of resources that scholars often must rely upon when investigating research problems in international relations is primary sources. Information about what a primary source is can be found here: http://libguides.usc.edu/writingguide/primarysources

The purpose of this question is to have you think about research problems in IR that require the use of original, uninterpreted records of a person or events rather than sources that were created by someone who did not directly experience or participate in the events or conditions under investigation.

Research Approach
